We headed out for a few hours on a Sunday afternoon with our friend Charlie. It was pretty windy for us especially for our 2nd sail of the year - about 8m/s with gusts to 13. Kalle told us “if you think you might want to reef, just reef” so we set up to reef (sail with the main sail not out to its full extent) in harbor. It was pretty wavy at sea, 0.5m per Kustväder app which is good to check. We had the Öresund pretty much to ourselves!
We want to revisit our rigging to make reefing easier - but it did work.
I noticed the halyard was a bit janky so we retired the knot and revealed the end of the sheet. Thank you YouTube.
It was cloudy in harbor but we even got some sunshine to accompany our acoustic version of The Gambler!
Another stressful but successful return to harbor- the motor died again both out at sea by the lighthouse and within the harbor. We were able to restart at sea and Captain Simon ably steered us into our berth only with wind and momentum (glad for favourable winds). But we need to get that fixed. We agreed we’ll order the Yamaha parts and ask a forum for a second opinion if our leading theory (clogged fuel line) is correct. It sputters and runs unevenly at low throttle before dying, so we wonder if it’s the external fuel tank (or possibly the old gas in that tank) that’s the issue?!? Any ideas please drop them in the comments below!
We ended the day with a dip and picnic at Västra Hamnen, in more sunshine than expected - ☀️ 💛 ⛵️
I think this is for your outboard? I have a pretty new 4-stroke Yamaha 9.9 marine outboard that had old fuel in it for about 7 months without running and I tried everything and finally just replaced the carburetor and it’s been working perfectly ever since.
