Putting Tornseglare away once more
With winter a-coming again and the days feeling quite short after returning to winter time, we figured that the one sunny day in our only non-busy weekend was time to take care of winterising Tornseglare again. We are even ahead of the game compared to last time!
It was a beautiful, sunny, 8 degree day. It was almost tempting to put this all off and take her out for one more day of sailing… but for the fact that there was absolutely zero wind today. So winterise we did.
To be honest, it went well. One of the things we both realised at the end of the day that we both quite enjoyed was that we both felt like we knew what we were doing. Sure, we had our checklist and we went over it a few times, but overall we had a plan, and we enacted it. It made the day feel a lot more relaxed (we did have two fikas in the sun!), since we mostly knew what we were needing to do. That is:
We spent far too long shopping for a motor stand, since our local Biltema which listed having several of them was completely in the chaos of construction, meaning no one knew where anything was. To Jula we go!
Our motor stand, which is great to have in comparison to last time since there was no convenient shopkeeper that Kalle could charm (as well as no Kalle)… came with very poor instructions. People talk about how confusing Ikea instructions are, but they are fantastic compared to this one confusing page (in 8 languages).
However, the motor removal and rinsing went quite well. It turns out that having the right tools (including a 59SEK siphon) is really convenient.
We need a bigger bucket next time to avoid getting everyone soaked once you start rinsing out the motor cooling system.
It also turns out that Kim was 100% correct about us using a van last year instead of a large SUV. While we did fit everything1 in the end it was quite a squeeze into the rented VolvoC90.
If the halyard for the foresail seems stuck, check that it isn’t, you know, wrapped around a winch somewhere.
Stay dry and safe, Tornseglare!
